Questions
Orthodontic questions, plainly answered.
General information about orthodontic treatment with Dr Amna Ali. Your own options, timeline and fee are confirmed only at your assessment.
Does orthodontic treatment hurt?
Most people feel pressure or mild soreness for a few days after braces are fitted, after an adjustment, or when they start a new set of aligners. It is usually manageable and settles as the teeth get used to it. Dr Amna will tell you what to expect and how to stay comfortable.
At what age should my child have an orthodontic check?
Dr Amna sees children from age 6. An early check does not mean early braces. Many children only need monitoring, and the visit tells you whether anything needs attention now, later, or not at all.
Am I too old for braces or Invisalign?
Healthy teeth can be moved at any age, and many orthodontic patients are adults. Your gums and bone need to be healthy, so Dr Amna checks these at your assessment before recommending treatment.
Invisalign or braces: which is better for me?
Neither is better for everyone. Both can treat many of the same problems. Some cases are more suited to braces, and some patients prefer aligners because they are removable and less visible. Dr Amna explains the options that genuinely fit your teeth after examining you.
How long does orthodontic treatment take?
It depends on what needs to be corrected, the type of appliance and how consistently it is worn. Some courses of treatment take months, others take longer. Dr Amna gives you an estimated timeline at your assessment; it is an estimate, not a guarantee.
How often will I need to come to the clinic?
Most patients are seen every 4 to 8 weeks, depending on whether they have braces or aligners. If you travel or live outside Dubai, ask about planning your visits around your schedule.
How many hours a day do I need to wear Invisalign aligners?
Aligners only work while they are in your mouth. Align Technology, the maker of Invisalign, recommends wearing them for 20 to 22 hours a day and taking them out only to eat, drink anything other than water, and clean your teeth.
What happens at the first consultation?
Dr Amna asks about your concerns, examines your teeth, bite and jaws, and may take photos, a digital scan or X-rays if they are needed to plan treatment. She then explains your options, whether treatment is needed now, and the next steps.
Will I need a retainer after treatment?
Yes. Teeth can drift back towards their old positions, so almost everyone wears a retainer after braces or aligners. Dr Amna will explain which type you need and how long to wear it.
How much does treatment cost?
The fee depends on your case and the type of treatment, so it is given to you after your assessment rather than listed online. Ask the clinic about payment options, such as monthly instalments, when you book.
Does insurance cover orthodontic treatment?
Some insurance plans include orthodontic cover and many do not. Check your policy with your insurer, and ask the clinic which documents they can provide.
Which clinic should I book?
Choose whichever is easier for you: Invisalign Center in Jumeirah (697 Jumeira St, Umm Suqeim 2) or Smilepoint Medical Center in Al Warqa (Aswaaq Mart, Al Warqa 3). Dr Amna offers all of her treatments at both. Her hours are 10:30am–7:30pm at Invisalign Center, and Wednesdays 12:00pm–8:00pm at Smilepoint.
How do I book an appointment?
Send a WhatsApp message to +971 56 800 6169, email info@amnaortho.com, or call the Jumeirah clinic on 800 1011 or the Al Warqa clinic on 056 433 9994. Tell the team which treatment you are interested in and which clinic suits you.
